Adult Orthodontics

There are now several orthodontic treatment options available to dentists for their adult patients who want to straighten their teeth without the use of traditional metal braces. From "instant orthodontics" like porcelain veneers to invisible braces, these new methods allow adults to transform their smile with minimal disruption of their lives.

For the most part, treatment for adults is the same as for children. An orthodontist will prepare an individualized plan, starting with a comprehensive oral exam that will evaluate the condition of your teeth and gums.

Unlike the bones of a child, an adult’s bones are no longer growing. Due to this, treatment can be slower and take longer to show results. The end results, however, are usually well worth the wait.

In addition, the bony support for an adult's teeth is firmer than that of a growing child and is naturally more resistant to tooth movement. Though this is a hindrance, it isn't a deterrent. As long as the teeth, the gums, and the underlying bone are healthy, teeth can be straightened at any age.

If you have always wanted to change your smile but were hesitant because of your age, consult your dentist. More than likely, he will start you on the road to more beautiful teeth.

Invisalign®

If your career or activity level makes it impractical to wear bulky braces for years, consider Invisalign to get the beautiful straight teeth you've always wanted—without braces. A complimentary consultation with Dr. Sipps can determine if Invisalign is right for you.

What Is It?

Invisalign uses a system of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that no one can see you wearing. Now you can smile more during treatment as well as after. Invisalign is made with 3-D computer imaging technology, and has been proven effective.

Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment, and brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also much more comfortable than traditional braces, with no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. With Invisalign, you can review your own virtual treatment plan when you start, so you can see how your straight teeth will look when the program is complete.

How Does It Work?

You wear each set of Invisalign aligners for about two weeks, removing them to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth are moving—little by little, week by week—until they have straightened to the final position. You'll visit our office about once every four to six weeks to ensure that your progress is going as planned. The total treatment program averages nine to fifteen months but in some cases can be finished in as little as five months.
